Every February, we make our annual pilgrimage to Arrochar for a weekend of focused rehearsals ahead of the Scottish Championships. This year, however, our band returned to those scenic surroundings this August for something a little extra - an additional training weekend in preparation for the National Brass Band Championships of Great Britain in Cheltenham! Our trip to the Nationals was only possible thanks to an incredible win at the Scottish, and we weren’t about to leave anything to chance.
With the stunning backdrop of Loch Long and the Arrochar Alps, the band worked hard to shape Arthur Bliss’s Music from “The Royal Palaces” into something truly special. We were privileged to welcome back two exceptional guest tutors - Lynda Nicholson and Alison Bonnar - whose expert guidance and musical insights helped us elevate our performance to the next level. We couldn’t have asked for better company!
But the weekend wasn’t all brass and business. On Saturday night, we let our hair down at the Three Villages Hall for our annual Awards Night - a brilliant evening full of celebration, laughs, and well-earned recognition. 🥳
A massive congratulations to:
🎖 Shona Jones – Player of the Year and the coveted Band Players’ Player of the Year
🚀 David Hoey – Most Improved Player of the Year
🌟 Tenor Horn Section (Catriona Black, Lesley MacSween & Mags Fegen) – Best Section of the Year
Many more band members received awards on the night - each one a reflection of the talent, dedication, and team spirit that defines Renfrew Burgh band.
Huge thanks to Rachael McKenzie-Marner for all her hard work in organising the Awards Night—it was an absolute triumph and gave us the perfect chance to celebrate everything we’ve achieved together.
We also held our spectacular GrandInYirBank prize draw with a cool £1000 on the line—and we’re thrilled to announce that Allan McGranaghan walked away with the big win! Massive congratulations once again, Allan 🥳
Missed the moment? You can catch the live draw again on our Facebook page and relive the excitement.
Here's to the Nationals, and to every person who makes this band so special. Let’s keep the music ringing and the memories coming.
